Guidelines for Abstract Submission

All selected abstracts will appear in the Conference Programme Booklet. It is on the basis of the abstracts that delegates will choose which presentations or workshops to attend, or which posters to view. Abstracts must therefore accurately reflect the content of one’s presentation. In order to be considered for inclusion in the conference programme, your abstract must fulfil the following set of criteria:

  • Length of Title: Your title must be a maximum of 15 words.
  • Length of Abstract: Your abstract must not exceed 150 words.
  • Repetition of Information: You must not repeat your title or include any biodata in your abstract.
  • Repeat of Presentation: You must not have submitted this abstract, or a version of this abstract, at a previous ELTAI Annual Conference or any other conferences.
  • Presentation Format: We accept abstracts for the paper and poster presentations.

Paper Presentation Guidelines

  • Research papers can be either empirical or conceptual. Presentations of empirical studies should provide a rationale for the study, a description of the methodology, research results, conclusions, and implications. Presentations of conceptual research should discuss an approach or a critical issue, compare and contrast alternative approaches or issues, or provide significant or innovative perspectives. Papers can be presented for 10 minutes. Those not accepted for paper presentations may be considered for poster presentations. Abstracts for paper presentations should not exceed 150 words.

Poster Presentation Guidelines

  • Poster presentations provide an opportunity to showcase the recently completed or work-in-progress projects or research. Posters will be displayed during a scheduled session at the conference. Presenters will be asked to stand by their posters during these sessions to present their work and answer questions. The minimum size of a poster is A1 portrait (59.4cm wide x 84cm high) and the maximum size is 70cm wide x 1 metre high. An electronic version of each poster may be archived on the ELTAI website for future reference. Poster abstracts should not exceed 150 words.

Abstract Review Process

Reviewer Assignment
As soon as an abstract is submitted by a presenter, it is assigned to a reviewer. Our reviewers are experienced professors of English working in reputed institutions.
Blind Review
We follow a blind review process. Reviewers do not have access to presenters’ names or institutions.
Scoring Criteria
Each proposal is read and scored according to the rubric by reviewers. The rubric contains the following criteria:
  • Focus: Your abstract must clearly indicate if the focus of your presentation is mainly theoretical or practical, or a combination of both.
  • Clarity: Your title and abstract should clearly communicate what you are going to talk about to your potential audience in the conference without using unnecessary technical jargon.
  • Relevance: Your abstract must be clear so that the audience can apply what you say to their own context(s). This is especially important if you are planning to describe a course, project or product, or if your presentation relies heavily on a description of a local situation.
  • Structure: Your abstract must clearly outline how you are going to structure and organise your presentation.
